Communications and Outreach Intern
The Wayfarer Foundation seeks a Communications and Outreach Intern who will work to populate and update a range of communication channels, develop relations with press and carry out specific tasks related to outreach within the community and other organizations. This opportunity will engage a full range of marketing and communications skills, but the emphasis is on social media, press relations and outreach. A good candidate will be familiar with social impact issues and nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, be detail-oriented and self-directed.
Candidates with strong writing, research, organizational and graphic design/visual skills are especially encouraged to apply.
Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Wayfarer Foundation’s relationship with press
Organizing and assembling media assets
Creating content for social media posts and newsletters
Adapting and sharing program information for and with different audiences about the Wayfarer Foundation’s 1:1 Pilot Program and the annual Skid Row Carnival of Love
Developing relationships and communicating with other like-minded advocacy and service organizations
Outreach: raising awareness of our events and programs to make homelessness a solvable problem by tabling, distributing flyers, and sharing information in the neighborhoods and at the events where we can have the greatest impact
Strong communications skills and relationship-building ability
Fluency with social media and email marketing
Excellent research and organizational skills
Precise, detail-oriented work ethic
Ability to multitask, work independently, and take initiative
Graphic Design Skills preferred
Experience working with nonprofit/cause-based organizations
Commitment: 12-16 hours/week. A semester-long commitment is required, with the possibility to extend based on performance and desire. The position is unpaid; college credit will be arranged as needed.
